The cost of developing an automotive app can vary widely, but a realistic starting range is around $30,000–$60,000 for a basic application, while advanced connected-car platforms can cost $100,000 or more. The final budget depends less on the app category and more on what the application actually needs to do.

For example, a dealership app with vehicle listings, service bookings, customer accounts, notifications, and location features is relatively straightforward. A connected-car app is much more complex because it may need real-time GPS, vehicle diagnostics, remote lock/unlock, telematics integration, cloud infrastructure, and stronger security controls.

In my experience, the biggest cost drivers in automotive app development are usually third-party integrations and backend complexity. If the app needs to communicate with vehicles or external automotive systems, integration requirements can significantly affect both development time and testing.

Development isn't a one-time expense if the application is expected to remain reliable as mobile operating systems and connected-vehicle technologies evolve.

So, before asking for a fixed development price, define the user type, core workflows, required integrations, target platforms, and expected scale. A clear scope will give you a much more useful estimate than a generic “automotive app” quote.
