There are two laptops here that are free donations. While they are in "absolutely perfect condition" and cost almost 2000$ each.....that was back in 2003, so they are very very old machines.
They only run winXP SP3.
THerefor, RDP is a low overhead way for these machines to deal with Cameyo.
I wonder if you happen to know?....does the Cameyo desktop app require SP3?......since it know it already requires NET 3.0 right?
Does NET 3.0 run on "non SSE2 chips"?.....?.....since one of these laptops only contains an AMD Athlon SSE cpu chip.
to RDP from xp sp2, you have to disable Network Level Authentication on the server. to RDP from xp sp3, enable Network Level Authentication on xp sp3.
Cameyo packages don't require .net, but to edit packages, you should have .net 2.
using xp leaves you wide open though. i have a friend who upgraded a 15 year old computer from xp to win10 and it works. original cost was less than $2000 so maybe you can do it too. of course the computer is slower with win10 than xp but it's safer. if win10 won't work, consider linux.
ok......so the machine dialing into an RDP session....is the client....the machine supplying
the OS and session is the server
so your saying for an xp sp2 client....i need to disable NET LEVEL AUTH on my cameyo cloud server....?
for using an xp sp3 client........you would need to disable NET LEVEL AUTH on the actual sp3 client machine.......not disable anything on the cloud server...?
for XP SP2 client, you need to disable NLA on the host because XP SP2 doesn't do NLA. XP SP3 is capable of NLA but it isn't enabled by default, therefore it needs to be enabled on the client first.
i saw your "consider Linux" comment and i certainly DO run Linux on my 15 year old
laptops.....but i run TINYCORE LINUX and the only web browser they offer is an older
Chromium.....which no longer dials into Cameyo. (it USED TO work.....before cameyo did upgrades)
THere are several other Linux OS versions here......but i like to use extremely SMALL linux distros thatboot off USB PEN....such as "Alpine Linux" ....."Tinycore Linux"....etc..etc...."Slitaz linux"
These tiny Linux OS's are all just about 10 megabyte operating systems. So they are great.
I have no doubt that ONE of my Linux flavors will have an ENOUGH of an up to date web browser to dial into cameyo..........so i could try them.........
......but which Linux flavors and Linux browsers do Cameyo really support?
I know Cameyo used to work FINE with several Linux browsers inside the Tinycore Linux distro......browsers such as "dwb" browser because i successfully used Cameyo through them....
.....but sadly now, all my Linux browsers are broken after Cameyo did a further uprgrade....
I currently access Cameyo from win32 via a browser called "Slimjet" which is a fast flavor
of chrome............and that browser still works.....so i hope Cameyo keeps that as the case.
But one of the laptops here can't run "Slimjet" or Chrome etc on win32 because of it's old SSE cpu chip. Therefor i doubt it would run them through some LINUX either.......although it's worth a try
