I am using Cameyo ver 2.0.873 and I've created several apps including Quicken Deluxe, GIMP, and Adobe Photoshop. For all three apps when I edit a file and save it the file is saved only into the VOS. No matter what I do at the Save as dialog, I can only save into the VOS file. From the Save as dialog it looks to me like I'm saving somewhere in my Documents folder but when I check the location I saved to, it's in the VOS. I've checked the apps with the editor and they all are set to operate in data mode which says it should be able to save to my Documents, network drives, and USB drives. I've tried to save to USB several times and even though it appears to save to the USB all that happens is create a folder called E_ under VOS and saves there. I guess I can live with the files being saved in the VOS but what can I do to make it really work in data mode and save to my USB?
Please upload one of your packages, like GIMP, that is not allowing you to save to Documents even though it is in Data mode to a file-hosting site and provide the url, or you can use WeTransfer, send to yourself, and post the link here.
I found out where I'm wrong. In my original message I said that "it should be able to save to my Documents, network drives, and USB drives." Quite wrong. It should be able to save to my Documents and network drives only. Not to USB drives. I've been trying to save to a USB drive. Also I was incorrectly thinking that the Pictures, Music, and Video folders in Windows 7 and Windows 8 were under Documents as they are in Windows XP. Also wrong. They are separate folders. So what I need to do is to read the docs and find out how to stay in Data mode but add any USB drive to my list of places the program can save to. Basically I want to be able to edit files on a computer, running the software off a flash drive and saving to the flash drive without writing anything to the hard drive.
So thanks for your reply. I won't need to upload a copy of the file.
Using Package Editor, Add empty folder and name it E_ if your USB drive letter is E:. Give E_ full access. (Tip: if you don't want the package to have access to the root of the USB drive, you can Add empty folder within E_ and give full access to the subfolder, keeping E_ Isolated.) If your USB drive varies and is sometimes E, sometimes F, sometimes G, add all three to your package individually, i.e. E_, F_, G_, giving full access to each.
In a future version of Cameyo, there will be an easier way to give access to the drive from which the package is launched, and a way to give access to all removable drives.
Thanks again Mule! Problem solved. My next task is to figure out what to do about file associations. I made a virtual copy of Quicken but when I tried to log into my bank account from Quicken.cameyo.exe and download my statement, Windows didn't know what to do with the download file, a .QXF file, because there was no association to virtual Quicken in Windows. I will need to create a script that creates a temporary association to Quicken and then releases the association when I quit Quicken. Is that capability something that can be programmed into Cameyo?
1. Can you open the qfx file through the virtualized Quicken? 2. Does dragging the qfx file to the package open it?
If either of the above works and you're looking for a way to double click the file to have it open, the -Integrate parameter should also work. Documentation here. This can also be set with Package Editor under the Advanced tab in the Integration section.
In older versions of Quicken I was able to download a file and then import it. The past several years that ability has been taken out. Or if it's still there, it's well hidden. In more recent versions of Quicken I've tried downloading the file and importing it with no success.
Regards,
RZ
