Turning a folder into a Cameyo file
Permalink

I've just started using cameyo and am finding it great for installers.

I have quite a number of old 3rd party applications for which I don't have installers, but I do have all the needed dlls and exes in folders. These applications are relatively portable already - they don't have registry settings, etc - but it would be nice to turn them into single cameyo files and make them even more portable.

Whats the best way to turn a folder of exes/dlls into a cameyo file?

Hello markkinesense,

I would use Package Editor's New empty virtual package and add all of the necessary files and folders under the Files tab.  See here for Path variables; although, if the applications are already basically portable, the paths are probably arbitrary.

Under the General tab, choose a Startup command once you have the files and folders added to the Files tab, choose your Isolation mode, Data storage, Icon, and give the Application ID a meaningful name.

You can save your package then or play with the Advanced tab first.

Thanks Mule, I'll have a go.

Would it be possible to script this? I have about 440 different applications like this.

@Mule I'll answer this...

Scripting with even macro's may work however letting a software configure your settings for each app is madness as you may or may not want something turned on... but should you want to macro it "Macro Maker" will work for same setups but 440 different will not work you need to make them seperate however you gave me an idea on oldie apps to make a autorunner... so thanks for that but make your packs no easy way as they are all unique...

All I can say is 10 a day and a month and a half later your done...

Shawn

Thanks for reply.

There must be an easier way. Perhaps if I get a copy of the SDK I can code up an automated solution?

Hi markkinesense,

If you are comfortable with using the SDK, it is the way to go for your needs; otherwise, it can be done with the use of -SaveSnapshot and -LoadSnapshot parameters, but you would probably want to use a click simulator to automate the clicking of Install done each time.

Lazy mules like me would go Shawn's route and manually do ten or fiteen a day.  My hat's off to you.

Good luck.
