Cameyo problem after Win upgrade to 1903
Permalink

Happy fireworks day! Windows upgraded my computer to 1903 last night. This morning, I made a capture with Cameyo, and it seemed to work OK, but after that capture I cannot edit the Cameyo file or run Cameyo again. Rebooting the computer does not correct this problem, and I am unable to run Cameyo for another capture.

This is the error message when I try to edit the Cameyo file I could capture: Could not execute package editor.exe Error = 2

This is the similar error message when I try to run Cameyo again: Could not execute packager.exe Error = 2

I can get Cameyo to run to capture a package by first removing the Cameyo sandbox, but then it will not allow edit or run again for another capture until I remove the sandbox again. There were no problems like this until after the upgrade to Win 1903.

  1. Are you using cameyo.exe -Remove to remove the sandbox?
  2. After using cameyo.exe -Remove, can you use Package Editor to edit a package, save it, close Package Editor, and use Package Editor again, or do you get the error you mentioned?
  3. Are you using an unmodified version of cameyo.exe, or have you customized it?  If you have edited cameyo.exe, please share the edited version.  As usual, you can PM me with a link if you do not wish to share it publicly.

Thanks for the speedy reply.
1) Yes. I do cameyo.exe -Remove to remove the sandbox.
2) Not sure. I tried to do another test, and I could run Cameyo to capture only one time, but if I tried to edit first, then I would always get an error 2.
3) Thanks for the compliment, but my skills are far too primitive to be able to edit a program like Cameyo. I use the unedited version of Cameyo just as I downloaded it. I do edit Packager.XML to change the output destination line to: <OutputDir name="E:\Cameyo apps" />, and I add DefaultProperties.xml, but I have done that for more than a year with no problems.
New info:
4) While trying to reproduce the problems, it occurred to me that having Cameyo.exe and the sandbox in E: (a removable thumb drive that I never remove) could be the source of this new problem. I did my Cameyo work to E: because my C: ssd drive is only 120 GB, and that is mostly consumed by Windows. I saved my new installations to G: (an external ssd) and my captures to E:. I try to avoid applying new stuff to C: to conserve space on my system drive. Since the 1903 upgrade required removal of all USB drives during the upgrade process, I thought it possible that 1903 and Cameyo might not play well with having Cameyo.exe and the sandbox in E:. I copied Cameyo.exe to G: and used the Cameyo editor to keep to the sandbox in G:. So far so good. If I have more problems with this I will update this thread. Thanks! Jim

Apologies for my premature optimism. Even after doing cameyo.exe -Remove to remove the sandbox, and taking care to remove the drive letter E: from a new sandbox, I can EITHER edit a previous capture, OR make a new capture, but I cannot do both in either order. It also appears that Cameyo will work OK in the original drive E:, but again only after I remove the sandbox and create a new one. Even then, Cameyo will allow me to edit an earlier capture, or to capture a new install, but not to do both in either order.

If anyone on your team of experts has a home computer that is upgraded to 1903, I think they can reproduce this set of problems. If their home computer is still running 1809, that is even better. Then they can copy Cameyo.exe to a USB drive and confirm that it works properly, just as mine did for the past year. After the eventual upgrade to 1903, I expect that they will have similar problems. After confirming the problems, a Cameyo update to enable Cameyo to run without repeated removals of the sandbox would be most welcome. Thanks!

I am unable to reproduce.  I can build packages, edit packages, and repeat both processes without having to -Remove on Win10 1903.

Please see private message.

My problem with error 2 continues, but I discovered that it is possible to do two operations before Cameyo is disabled with error 2. Starting with no sandbox, I can edit and save a previous capture. Then I can begin a new capture without the error 2 problem. That is the only way I can do two operations without an error 2 problem. If I remove the sandbox and then do a capture, I cannot edit a saved capture or begin another because of the error 2. If I remove the sandbox and edit a previous capture, then trying to edit another capture results in error 2 and so does an effort to do a new capture. Once I get an error 2, the only action I can take is to remove the sandbox and start again.

For some reason, the database of your virtual filesystem is becoming corrupt.  It actually becomes smaller between the times of successful first use and unsuccessful second use.

  1. Did I understand correctly that you tried using cameyo.exe on your external drive instead of your thumb drive and still experienced the same error?
  2. Do you have another thumb drive with which you can test?
  3. Would you be willing to test on C: drive?  I know you want to keep this drive clean, but Cameyo's repository does not take up much space, and you can -remove it after the test.

Cameyo has the same problems when I use E or F (removable thumb drives that I never remove) or C or G (an SSD that I mount only for installations to be captured with Cameyo). I sent more data than you want to receive by PM. Good luck finding the cause, and hopefully producing a cure. Thanks again for looking at this problem.

I did not see your PM.  I was able to find a way to reproduce however, so that is good news.  I shall post back when there is a fix.  Thanks, J-3, for the report and your patience.

I can confirm that the Windows upgrade to 1903 results in Cameyo failing with an error 2. I have recently upgraded two computers to 1903. Cameyo worked well in both before the upgrade, but failed with error 2 in both after the upgrade. I am surprised that other Cameyo users have not reported the same error 2 problem in 1903.

Is an update in the works to eliminate the error 2 problem in 1903? Thanks!

Please try changing Isolation mode of cameyo.exe to Full access.  After saving, you may have to -Remove one more time.

Cameyo seems to be working OK after changing it to full access. Thanks!
