Problems creating virtual app for SideSync
Permalink

Hi there,

I'm having troubles creating a virtual app of Samsung SideSync (http://www.samsung.com/global/download/Sidesyncwin/) both by trying it online as offline. Online it gives an error which is to solve by a command line, but then the compilation still fails. Offline the created app simple doesn't work, I don't see a process starting.

Could anyone help me with this?

Cheers,

Jelco

Hello Jelco,

Did you create your package on a clean virtual machine?  Please upload your package to a file-hosting site and provide the url. or you can use WeTransfer, send to yourself, and post the link.

Using Package Editor, click the Advanced tab, put a check mark by Allow system services to be registered on target machine, and save.

It's possible that SideSync requires a driver to work correctly.  Such an application will be problematic to virtualize.  You can read some information here.

Hi Mule,

Thanks for your answer :)

I didn't create the package on a virtual machine, but just on my own PC without running anything else. This is the package it created.

I'll try the Package Editor option you suggested. I can imagine the virtualized isn't working because of the drivers needed, as it is a program to connect to mobile devices.

Cheers,

Jelco

Thanks for uploading your package.  It looks incomplete.  Was it created on a machine in which SideSync had previously been installed?

Package Editor doesn't show an option for services to be registered.  That indicates no services were captured, e.g. they were already present on the machine before the pre-installation snapshot.

Have you tried running this package on a system that had SideSync installed and uninstalled?  On a clean system, running the package produces nothing ... as you said.  If SideSync was installed and removed, I get the attached screenshot.

Alright, I ran and packaged it on a clean virtual machine and it works :) (http://we.tl/thhyGNu0Pl)

However, why I was trying this in the first place was because my laptop stops working every time I open the program (and now again with the portable program). I'm thinking this might be due to some residual files from other earlier installations. I've already tried removing the program and removing all register hits on 'Samsung' and 'Sidesync'. Do you have any other suggestions to make the program work again except a new image on my laptop?

Thanks a lot for your help!

Jelco

What does it mean when you say your laptop stops working?

If you try the new package in a clean VM, does the virtual machine stop working in the same way?
