I am virtualied an old CD game and I copied the contents of teh CDROM to a folder in the root of C :\cdrom. that folder is included in my virtual app files. And I went into the registry and changed teh CD path from D:\ to C:\cdrom\ but when I run the virtual app on a test computer it pops up a dialog asking for cd files and if I put c:\cdrom it won't take it. It is looking at the local harddrive and not the virtual files. Do I have to do something specific in the path to get it to look inside the virtual app for the directory instead of on the local harddrive?
1. Did you build your package in a clean virtual machine? 2. Did you copy the contents of the CD to C:\cdrom and edit the registry of the CD path before taking the post-installation snapshot? 3. Have you tested the game with a regular install to ensure that it accepts copied files to the hard drive, i.e. that it does not insist the CD is in the drive?
the first time I build the app I forgot to change teh registry. so I edited teh package and changed the registry but it still errored. So I scrapped it and rebuild the app this time editing the registry before completing scan. when I testd on the VM machine it ran because the c:\cdrom folder was present on the harddrive. when I copied to my workstation and tested it errored asking for path to the files.
I was able to sucessfully virtualize this app using another virualization product so I know it can be done. I"m just not sure why it isn't working in Cameyo.
Try running package with -ExtractAll parameter and then launching to see if it recognizes the virtual C:\cdrom. From command prompt, appname.cameyo.exe -ExtractAll
ran -ExtractAll from command line and got a Success: dialog box with a path to my profile. The program did not open/run. Then I tried re-running the program from the desktop and got the same missing files error. I checked the Path from the success dialog and I see the virtual FS. under C_ i see the cdrom folder with contents.
Please try packaging with Cameyo 2.5 beta. If that doesn't work, I'll need you to send me a link to your installer by private message to proceed further.
Thanks for the tips. Since it is working with other product I have too much on my plate right now to spend more time on it. Maybe when things slow down I'll come back and try the beta. Thanks
If the other product is from VM i would assume that the product in question utilizes some services for licensing/copyright protection issues wich AFAIK aren't working together with cameo so far, though thin-apps does well with them. But i guess we are on the edge of legal issues here.
