Hi! I used Cameyo in Windows 7 x64 Ultimate Virtualbox machine to make a portable package of Canon Digital Photo Professional 3.13.10.0. Everything seemed to work fine with the program, except that it didn't save anything right having been converted with the default Cameyo settings aka Data Mode. The problem was that only the packaged program seemed to know where the converted and saved files were and have access to them, while the explorer didn't show the files that the program showed at all in folders they were supposed to be. I edited the package with trial and error method and got it saving the edited pictures to where I wanted it to. With the default settings Data Mode the package behaved like it was all isolated, so i had to relax tsettings to full access to system. I wonder if this is the correct way to bypass the described saving problem? Does the full access now mean that the program acts like it was installed with registry settings and all dependcies, except being run from the package?
I'm very new to portable apps packaging myself and lack real programming skills as well as patience to learn all the ins and outs of portable program creation, but I still hope I could get it done Cameyo as it seems to be quite straight forward and easy to use in general and I love to use programs without having to install them and keep the settings as they were from one Windows installation or computer to another.
Thanks in advance for any further enlightenment to the issue and how to deal with it.
It is OK to set to different mode, Data mode or Full access, in fact. You can save files to your desktop in data mode. Try it out. Other places the Documents folder and network drive. For full access, it has no restriction.
However, your files are really saved, but in the data folder. I suggest you set the package as Data or Isolated mode, selecting "Under the executable directory", and "Leave no registry traces". After you run the package, there will be a data folder under the same directory as the package. The data folder contains a VOS folder, and in it, different folder like %Program Files%, %AppData% and the like. You will probably find C_ or D_ folder if you save files to C or D drives. The files are in those folder, and thus really portable.
So, I recommend most app being set to Data (more convenient) or Isolated (safer, really portable), unless you want to publicize them, so that those app can be really portable without any files left behind (this problem may occur when set to Full Access Mode), and also, you won't forget to save files to your USB drive instead of other local drives, since all files are in the data folder.
