How to Make Multiple Users of a Windows Computer Use and Manage the Same portable app

Hi Cameyo Experts,

 

what is the right strategy here?

Should each user have a separate instance of Cameyo.exe or not?

 

More difficult situation: some applications should be shared but  some other applications should be multiplied for each user.

What is best way to manage all these applications.

Hello tsesis,

Do the muliple users have their own User Accounts?  If so, one Cameyo package will behave as if it's separate for each user because the default Data storage is in %AppData%.  For packages that can be shared, I suggest changing Data storage from the default to a location that each user can access commonly.  For example, on one of my systems, I have the packages' Data storage set to Under the executable's directory; on another system, I have it set to a different partition.

Hello mule,

 

thanks for your replay.

yes - I mean different users with own User Accounts.

I already started experiments with different copies (and with changed application-IDs) of the same package, 

but after your answer - I understood - this is not necessary in most cases.

I changed the Data storage to %Personal%\Cameyo and it works perfect.

Btw, in the coming version there is PROG-DATA separation. Meaning your program's files can be shared (the same dir) for all users, while the data folder (where users make changes) can be different for each user. This will save space.
