I installed pre-packaged VLC from the Camey library - Note this is not a problem with VLC - and it ran fine. It played my music and downloaded podcasts, exactly as I hoped.
I then tried to save a podcast to my hard disk. It appeared in VLC to save, (and I got file already exists when I tried to save again) but I could not find the downloaded file with Windows Explorer. I took a look with the package editor and found that files can only be saved to My Documents, Desktop and external drives. OK I like that - good security. I tried saving my podcast to a directory under My Documents and all was fine. BUT note, I thought I had saved a file and it was not saved! Some error message needs to appear.
I then tried to change the isolation mode. After all, I tend to save files in other places. Now the new (my version packaged with isolation mode set to full access) VLC refuses to download podcasts: Error your input can't be opened!
Similar problems occur with other packaged programs such as 7Zip - you think the file is saved but when checking with Windows explorer, it is not there.
Is there another setting that needs to be made in isolation mode = full acess to access networked files?
OK thanks. To confirm; files that you attempt to save outside My Documents/Desktop and External drives are stored in the VOS directory. Yes, I have found them. Of course, that is not what I wanted, but knowing is good! So the take-home message is that one should only use the special directories when using Cameyo apps.
Is there any information regarding the error when attempting to download a podcast using VLC after changing isolation mode to full access? I have other apps that behave odly when I change the isolation mode to full (e.g. my packaged version of GoodSync).
Did you try downloading VLC with Full access from the Library? If not, I'd give that a go to see if it downloads your podcast for you in the location you want. It worked for me when I tried it with 7-zip....
