Several errors during an internal Cameyo Play Server installation
Permalink

Hello,

I hope the dev's or other form members can assist with a few issues I've been encountering while trying to install the Play Server on a internal hosted Windows 2012 server. I've checked the forms, guides, and Google for solutions, but nothing I've found matches the specific issues I'm having.

I am a system administrator for a school district. I've just recently stumbled across this product while researching application virtualization product solutions. We currently run a forest of 9 Windows Server 2012 R2 virtual machines on a highly capable pair of VSphere ESXi 6.0 physical servers, with 8, 1Gbs pipes available to each physical machine, and a 1gbs fiber backbone between all the sites. I've set up a clean, Windows Server 2012 and 2012 R2 virtual machine, (both with no success) installing the Play Server.

The best I can tell, the problem possibly seems to be associated with the Ionic library streaming zip files for the "Cameyo Play HTML5 Frontend" and "HTML5 Rendering Service" downloads during the install process. Everything else completes successfully, except these 2 items get hung on the "downloading" state. I've let it sit for 6+ hours on at least 2 separate occasions. Restarting the computer/install/services sometimes populates one or both "guacamole" or "guacd" folders with .zip or .zip.tmp files, sometimes it extracts these files to their respective folders, while other times, nothing happens at all. While the install is happening, the temp folder where the install is running from (no matter whether this is in the AppData folder, or elsewhere) shows "guacamole-auth-extern-release.zip.tmp" and "guacd-release.zip.tmp" with a 0 byte size. The installer keeps overwriting these files so fast (constantly!) that you can't even select them because the installer is continually and rapidly overwriting them with the same 0 byte files.

This happens on both Windows Server 2012 and 2012 R2 standard w/GUI. The only difference I've noticed is the additional issue of the "rapstartsrv-bin.zip" file does not self extract itself during an install on Server R2, causing a fatal error in the install. The file is downloaded into the proper directory, and if I manually extract it, the install continues, until it encounters the same errors as noted above with the Server 2012 OS.

I've checked the logs, there seems to be nothing out of place or error messages, it just hangs on these 2 downloads, and therefore, never completes the install, never allowing me to proceed to the registration window.

I'm really hoping this product will be able to meet the needs of virtualizing a few apps on an on demand basis, particularly on iPads and Chromebooks. I thank you in advance for a assistance anyone may be able to provide, and can provide anymore more details if necessary.

Well, I seemed to have solved the issue...not really sure why, but.....

It appears I was using a HP OEM version of Windows Server 2012 (apparently the Camyeo play installer DID NOT like that?) The ISOs were in on my network storage just labeled as Server 2012 so I didn't realize it) until I used a newly created vanilla version ISO from Microsoft. The installer completed without any issues without any other changes besides the version of the OS.

Your earlier attempts occurred during a maintenance period.  I was just logging in to ask you to try again, but it seems you already have.  Thanks for reporting back.
