Quickeys application starts ok, but doesn't work properly
Permalink

Hi,

I use a macro recording application called Quickeys (www.startly.com)

Basically, it records keystrokes and mouse clicks/movements, allows a user to then assign a hotkey (or edit the script), before finally playing the recording back.

Unfortunately, the Cameyo version doesn't work right. It records just fine, but when I click the "stop recording" button it fails to pull up the script. As a result, I can't then assign a hotkey or play back any recordings.

However, the newly installed Quickeys works just fine. It's only the Cameyo version which fails to work.

There are no error messages which makes it even more frustrating. I did try running it wth -safemode parameter and received a System Hook DLL not loaded error, but I am assuming that the safemode doesn't load applications DLL's (only System Dll's).

For the capture process I used Oracle VirtualBox (32 bit) running XP Professional (SP3) and with .NET Framework v3.5 installed. It was also a "clean build" machine.with no other software installed (other than system software, etc). I did also use the online packager, but the output file still does the same.

As indicated above, just to add to my misery the newly installed Quickeys then proceeds to work without a hitch, whilst the Cameyo version doesn't. Just to be on the safe side I did also try running the Cameyo QK version on other machines, but the result was the same. It records ok then nothing.

Any suggestions would be gratefully accepted

Best wishes

Pete

Hello Pete,

Sorry, we have looked into it and it appears that Cameyo doesn't support the virtualization of QuicKeys at this time.  We don't have a current estimate of when Cameyo might virtualize QuicKeys successfully.

I hope you're able to use Cameyo to create other packages in the meantime.

Hi Mule,

Many thanks for your response. It is much appreciated.

Are you able to advise what the main cause of the problem is?

It's just so I have a idea what to look out for in any future virtualization endeavours.

All my other apps work fine. It's just QuicKeys which refuse to work correctly, but I don't know why (alhough I would love to know at least the reason for this).

Kind regards,

Pete

No, I'm afraid I don't know exactly what it is that makes QuicKeys a challenge.  When the Brighter Minds department is able to analyze the package's inner workings, the likelihood of tracing a cause is much, much higher.

I'm glad your other packages work to your satisfaction.  Sorry I don't have more information for you on QuicKeys.

Hi Mule,

Many thanks for the update.

I am sure that the Brighter Minds department will come up with both the reason why it isn't currently working properly and also the solution.

Suspect that it is a simple addition or tweak the existing source data.

Best regards,

Pete
