old app that uses MSSOAP on XP

Hi, doing some testing on an app we are trying to get working on Win7.  It is an older app that works on XP however it references MSSOAP and gives error "SOAP Client Object not Available".  Any idea how we work around this?

Thanks

Hello Clasha,

Can you upload your installer to a file-hosting site and provide the url? or you can use WeTransfer, send to yourself, and post the link.  If it is a program that you do not want to make available publicly, you can send me the link via private message.

sorry I am not able to do that and it wouldn't work offsite as it would need to talk to the backend.  The only guidance we can get is that:

"The error appears when the application is unable to locate the "MSSOAP.SOAPClient" object, which is normally provided by the "MSSOAP1.dll" file in the application's directory."

I did also find out that this client software needs to be able to write files to its application directory so that is another item I need to cover.

Have you checked the sandbox to see if MSSOAP1.dll was deployed?

I attempted to add it to the package.  I think it is part of the XP SP3 install so I don't think it picked up that it uses it or the application can't find the entry or something it is looking for in the packaged app?

You're right: there is an MSSoap directory that includes MSSOAP1.dll in a subfolder in XP.

Does the application work on Win7 if you do a regular installation?

No it doesn't.  I may have it working now that I manually added a few registry entries for MSSOAP.  Testing to come next.
