VLC build doesn't find plugins
Permalink

I compared my VLC build (clean XP on virtual machine) with the one I downloaded from Cameyo.

Mine won't work as it can't find plugins, and I can't figure the difference with a working app.

Any hints?

Ali

Hello Ali_Baba,

I understand that the package you created won't find the plugins.  Are you saying that the package you downloaded from the Cameyo Library does find the plugins, i.e. that it works correctly?

Yes, That's correct.

I traced the failure to 'disk mode' vs. 'ram mode'. In 'ram mode' my application works as well. The Cameyo build works on both modes.

I thought that both modes are compatible, and disk mode is more robust.

I used this app as reference:

https://online.cameyo.com/packager.aspx?op=Retrieve&pkgId=634955694157927939

Can someone highlight the differences between the different modes?

Ali

Would you mind uploading your package--the one you created--to a file-hosting site and provide the url, or you can use WeTransfer, send to yourself, and post a link?

I have heard of packages working better in DISK mode than RAM mode but not the other way around.

In DISK mode, the package extracts files as it needs them to the package's sandbox, which is located in %AppData%\VOS\[Application ID] by default.  In RAM mode, fewer files are extracted to this location; instead, most are run from memory.  DISK mode is usually the better choice for larger packages that are run often or regularly.

I downloaded your package and it launches fine for me on XP SP3 x86 and Win7 SP1 x64 in both RAM and DISK modes.  I understand you built the package on a clean XP VM.  That's x86, I presume...?

1. On what OS, service packs, and architecture are you running the package that gives you plugin problem, e.g. Win7 SP1 x64?

2. At what point do you see the plugin problem, when you first launch it, when you try to play a file, etc?  If it's when you try to play a file, please advise what type of file you're trying, e.g. mp3, mp4 with H.264/AAC encoding, etc.

One item I neglected to mansion: I own a Mac machine, and I'm running Windows through VMware fusion 6.0.2.

Build is done on a clean 32 bit XP-SP3, fully patched, nothing installed but an anti virus program.

I'm running on a 64 bit W7-SP1 machine, fully patched, with a lot of business software.

I chose to use application virtualization so my business application won't be affected.

The plugin issue prohibits the program from loading, I get the message, and it closes,

1. What security software is installed on the Win7 machine?

2. When you try running it on the Win7 system, you receive the VLC message "VLC media player could not start / Either the command line options were invalid or no plugins were found" or something different?

3. Have any of the packages that you built with Cameyo-2.6.1191 worked on the Win7 machine?

1. Win7 security is McAfee virus scan enterprise

2. Yes, that's the VLC massage

"VLC media player could not start / Either the command line options were invalid or no plugins were found"

3. Win7 machine runs multiple Cameyo-2.6.1191 packages successfully.

I installed a trial version of McAfee VirusScan Enterprise 8.8 patch 4 and tested your VLC package on Win7 x64.  It launched fine in both virtualization modes, RAM and DISK.

Just for troubleshooting, please download this VLC package I built and test it on your Win7 x64 system.  It's in DISK mode with a different Application ID than yours to ensure it creates a different sandbox.

Thanks.
