Cameyo crashes when windows explorer window appears
Permalink

Hello,

I've been using Cameyo for a while now and think it's great. However, recently I tried to add a file to a new empty package. As soon as the windows explorer window appeared to select a file, Cameyo stops working. This also happens if I try to add a file to an existing package (or basically any time the explorer window appears)

I was running version 832 but I removed this and replaced it with version 834 to no avail. I've tried -remove and running Cameyo again several times, as well as running as Admin and turning off Antivirus. Could you please help me with this issue?

Here's a screenshot:

Cameyo Stops Working

Thanks!

Hello,

Instead of clicking the Add file icon within Package Editor, have you tried dragging the file you want to add from Windows Explorer to Package Editor?

Also, have you ever been able to add files without crashing Package Editor?  In other words, is this a new problem of something you used to be able to do, or did the problem occur the very first time you tried to add a file?

Hi, thanks for the reply. Drag & drop works so that would be a workaround, didn't know that, thanks!

It's never something I've tried to do before so I guess this problem has always been there. I'm using 32 bit Win 7

I'm glad drag and drop worked without crashing.  Were you able to Save the package after you added the file?  What about Save as?

Hello again and thanks for your help Mule. No, save as doesn't work either.

This made me realise that this problem must be new because I've definitely been able to do that before. This is a real shame because a number of the programs on my computer are now packaged with Cameyo and the ability to select and edit them is essential.

Do you have any ideas about what I can do to try and find out the problem? I've just deleted every registry entry related to cameyo and ran it again but it didn't make a difference. There's no issue with file permissions that I can see. I don't know what to try.

I'm not surpised that Save as doesn't work.  What about Save?  If Save works, you can use that as a workaround until we figure out what's causing the problem.

Since you weren't encountering the crash before, we can conclude something happened between the last time you were successful in Saving as and now.  Have you made any recent changes to your system?  When Cameyo was in beta, there was a version several hundred builds ago that caused a Runtime error on my laptop--not my desktop--that appeared to be tripped by a webcam showing up in Scanners & Cameras.  The error went away by deleting a registry key.  The bug was fixed in the next build.  Anyway, I mention that example to show it could be a change in your system that you might not normally consider.

Solved it!!!

I tried starting cameyo with Windows in safe mode to see if anything was different and to my surprise it pretty much worked! I could navigate everywhere with the exception of "Computer". Thinking this was the problem I looked in Computer to see what could be causing a conflict. I noticed that I had a Nokia Bluetooth Exchange folder in my "Other" devices which only appeared recently when I downloaded some things from my phone. As soon as i removed this folder, Cameyo worked fine!

It seems that for some reason, the Bluetooth folder intefered with Cameyo when it opened windows explorer.

If it helps, I also took a look at my Administrative Events and an error report was generated each time Cameyo crashed. Here is one of the reports (they're all the same)

Faulting application name: PackageEditor.exe, version: 1.0.0.0, time stamp: 0x50864e44

Faulting module name: MSVCR80.dll, version: 8.0.50727.6195, time stamp: 0x4dcddbf3

Exception code: 0xc000000d

Fault offset: 0x000127da

Faulting process id: 0xa68

Faulting application start time: 0x01cdf0bf39b3594a

Faulting application path: C:\Users\Alex\AppData\Roaming\VOS\Cameyo\%Program Files%\Cameyo\PackageEditor.exe

Faulting module path: C:\windows\WinSxS\x86_microsoft.vc80.crt_1fc8b3b9a1e18e3b_8.0.50727.6195_none_d09154e044272b9a\MSVCR80.dll

Report Id: 8310d476-5cb2-11e2-a106-0c6076ada1c4

It seems that MSVCR80.dll was at fault. I don't know what it does, maybe it will be of help if anyone else has a problem like this.

Anyway, thanks for all your help Mule. Like you said, it can be seemingly insignificant things that cause problems.

Thank You very much for reporting back that you had isolated the cause of the crash.  This can indeed be helpful to others.

I am glad you got it working without using inconvenient workarounds.

I hope you continue to visit the forum whether you're having issues or not.

I've re-produced this glitch by hooking up new hardware while the system was scanning seems cameyo keeps a copy of mapped devices unfortunately most anti-viruses and other type of scanners checking for space tends to make a divide by zero result. I'll try to get you the exact regisrty branch to prune from your packs when something like this arrives (For what I read you seemed to have removed the bad key). this may be a extra add-on to add to the "Pathtoavoid" list.
